The general secretary of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello Rondón, this Wednesday, April 08, assured that it is the total responsibility of the church hierarchy that in the country the Catholic population active in its religious action has decreased.

“This is a reality, this can be measured, what the Catholic population was like in Venezuela 20 years ago and with the Catholic population today,” he said, dismissing a statement made by Cardinal Baltazar Porras.

In that sense, Cabello argued that this decrease “has to do with the church hierarchy in this country. People have moved away, it's not that people stop believing in God, they've found other ways to communicate with God.”

In his Con El Mazo Dando program, broadcast number 566, he said that some people “become Christians, others take refuge in their prayers. I know people who get up at 2:00 in the morning to pray.”

“They (the church hierarchy) have been losing space for people like him (Porras). They are bad shepherds, good for people like this, the Catholic Church loses more space every day, sadly,” he said.
