Diosdado Cabello, in the tribute to General Domingo Antonio Sifontes, reiterated his desire that the government of Guyana understand that the path for the territorial dispute with Venezuela is dialogue and not provocations.
“Hopefully the government of Guyana understands that the path that must be followed is dialogue and peace, at a time when the US government announces the visit of the Undersecretary of Defense of the United States, while the British government sent a warship and had to go, but it's a provocation, just another one,” said the first vice-president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).
During the solemn ceremony held in the Hall of Honor of the Military Academy of the Bolivarian Army, Cabello emphasized that the People and
the FANB have demonstrated throughout history that when it comes to defending the Homeland, they grow.
At the beginning of 1985, a group of British people from the territory that is now known as Guyana crossed the Cuyuní river basin to continue to El Callao, Upata, Tumremo and El Dorado, with the intention of occupying Venezuelan lands and stealing minerals, however this invasion was repelled by a group of patriotic soldiers commanded by General Domingo Antonio Sifontes.
