During his Con El Mazo Dando program, the general secretary of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello Rondón, recalled that during the Fourth Republic the Armed Forces were used “to massacre our people”
“They used our Armed Forces to massacre our people. There was a man named Alejandro Izaguirre, who was the interior minister at the time. Right now they call me a cop for joking, I've never been a cop. But they called him the police officer Izaguirre and not for good, but for bad, for murderer, for bloodthirsty,” he said.
He said this when he mentioned the various dates on which Venezuela was attacked by various acts led by the extremist right before the arrival of Commander Hugo Chávez to the Presidency of the Republic, such as February 28, 1989.
He also commented that there was no investigation for the dead, “they picked them up on the street and took them to the General Cemetery of the South and to the place where they buried the victims of that massacre: The Plague, they were mass graves”.
“Terrible, terrible, here they picked up dead people on the street with machines, picked them up and put them in a truck, I'm not falling for it, this is true, real truth,” he said during broadcast number 562.
Cabello said that “they didn't tell the story as it was (...) everything was coldly calculated, that's how the political class of this country was, no one took responsibility, those who gave the order didn't show up, the military showed up.”
