The general secretary of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello Rondón, highlighted this Thursday the progress the country has made since the creation of the Law on Community Councils 20 years ago.

“We have made so much progress that the People, through the Community Circuits and the Communes, decide how they are going to spend or invest the budget in the projects they decide themselves, an open vote, without pressure of any kind, without coercion, but rather the People express themselves; that is our democracy,” he said during the March commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Organic Law of the Municipal Councils.

In that sense, he emphasized that the democracy experienced in Venezuela is one of debate, fraternity “and that of contradictions as well, necessary to continue moving forward in the midst of any circumstance.”

At the same time, he emphasized the richness of the debates that take place in community assemblies. “It has a high political, supportive and humanistic content, what is discussed in the Community Councils and in Communes, is a step forward in any movement of participation and leadership of the People,” he said.
