A special session of the City Council of Caracas was held on the Paseo de la Resistencia Indígena, in Plaza Venezuela, where they paid tribute to the courage of the original peoples.
In this sense, the tribute was extended to those who currently defend and protect the ideology, purity and rights of the different ethnic groups in Venezuela.
“And here we are all together, united, celebrating this great day of indigenous resistance and all cultural diversity,” said the mayor of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez.
During the event, they awarded the Order of Honor in its Only Class of the Good Citizen Simon Bolivar to the Deputy Minister of Indigenous Peoples, Radina Castillo, as well as 21 special awards to indigenous community leaders who stand out in Caracas parishes.
“If we don't just get together to remember history. Today we lift our faces with the intact pride of those who sink their roots deep in this land and know that, despite the toughest tests, we are still standing here,” said the Deputy Minister of Indigenous Peoples, Radina Castillo.
The Yosuipa Indigenous Cultural Group, representing the Wayuu people, was present at the event to honor Caracas as a Creative City in Music.
