The People's Power Minister for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, said Monday that Senator Markwayne Mullin's recent statements are not in line with the new path of diplomatic relations between Venezuela and the United States (USA).

Through his Telegram channel, Gil indicated that the statement of Mullin, who will assume as Head of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), contrasts “with the constructive spirit that characterizes the path we are building between Venezuela and the United States.”

He stressed that “it is precisely at this time that the sovereign decision of both countries to re-establish our diplomatic and consular relations takes on the greatest value, to overcome the microphone diplomacy that contributed nothing to bilateral relations.”

In this regard, he ratified the call of the Bolivarian Government: “let's turn the page on rhetoric that contributes nothing to coexistence between sovereign nations. Venezuela will always be willing to defend its self-determination with the same firmness with which it builds bridges to frank and respectful dialogue,” he emphasized.
