Chancellor Plasencia leads floral offering for ASEAN's 59th anniversary

On the occasion of the celebration of the 59th anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Félix Plasencia González, thanked this Tuesday for the humanitarian aid sent by this regional block to the Venezuelan people after the double earthquake that occurred last June 24.

From the National Pantheon, in Caracas, where Liberator Simon Bolivar was honored with a floral offering to celebrate 59 years of ASEAN, founded on August 8, 1967 in Bangkok, the foreign minister recognized the “commitment, commitment, affection and love that countries (not only in Southeast Asia but in the world) offered to help the Venezuelan rescue forces save lives, and now, to support the phase of reconstruction”.

He emphasized the importance of having international participation, support and solidarity during this new phase of Venezuela's “rebirth”, thus inviting the ambassadors of the member nations of ASEAN to a fraternal meeting to establish a strategic work agenda, in which the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries (MNOAL) must also be included.

“Venezuela deserves to be a regional power, a responsible power, a peace power; a power that strives to demonstrate that, with peace, without interference, without abuse, without guerrilla warfare, we can make a wonderful route for the citizens of this planet,” said the diplomat, referring to the fact that the Bolivarian Government is committed to working tirelessly for the well-being of its people.

Under the glorious notes of the Venezuelan National Anthem, “Glory to the Brave People”, and the multilateral organization's anthem, “The ASEAN Way”, Foreign Minister Plasencia González - together with the diplomatic corps accredited in Caracas - accompanied the ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Vu Trung My; the ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia, Fikry Cassidy; the chargé d'affaires of Malaysia, Beh Ching Chye; and the honorary consul of the Kingdom of Thailand, Oscar De Guruceaga López.
