During a meeting at the Miraflores Palace, the Leader of the Bolivarian Revolution, Hugo Chávez Frías, criticized the electoral strategies of the Venezuelan right, assuring that their candidates act as empty “products”, led by marketing.

Chávez ironized the opposition's dependence on its image advisors, pointing out that right-wing candidates “are talking and shooting like a crazy machine gun out there” and that, due to the constant instructions of their teams, “they don't even know where they are standing.”

In addition, he contrasting these tactics with the authenticity of the revolutionary process, recalling that he always refused to disguise his speech for electoral benefits. “They work in order to sell a product... It is capitalism brought to politics. I, who left Montuno, always refused to do that,” said Chávez.

The Commander recounted how, in the past, advisors tried to persuade him to remove the word “Revolution” from his message so as not to frighten the electorate, to which his response was to radicalize his position: “I spoke more about Revolution. I can't be fooling anyone.”

In addition, the Bolivarian leader stressed that Socialism is a transparent proposal accepted by the majority, recalling that in the 2006 campaign his speech focused exclusively on this model.

“Socialism! Socialism! And Socialism! That was my proposal to the country, and 63 percent voted for me,” he said, dismissing criticism that suggested deceiving the electorate. For the president, ideological clarity has been the basis of the connection with the people, rejecting any attempt at aesthetic or rhetorical manipulation imposed by foreign campaign manuals.

Finally, with his eyes set on the elections of October 2009, the Commander expressed his full confidence in the political maturity of Venezuelan society. “Who said that here we are the silly society, that they talk to us about this and that and are going to make us dizzy? We are already big enough for that,” he said.

Chávez projected a resounding victory close to 70% of the votes, reaffirming that this support is not personalist, but rather a conscious response from the people who have decided not to let themselves be “dizzy” by the offers of the right.
