The United States (USA) and the People's Republic of China officially kick off a series of trade talks in Paris with the aim of paving the way for a future summit between leaders Donald Trump and Xi Jinping.

Negotiators Scott Bessent and He Lifeng lead these delegations that have already visited several European and Asian capitals over the past few months. From the French capital, the action represents a renewed effort to stabilize the economic relationship between the two powers after periods of high volatility.

Among the issues to be addressed are discussions including the review of current tariffs and mutual access to the strategic markets of both countries.

The goal is to prepare a result that can be announced during Trump's possible trip to Beijing, initially scheduled from March 31 to April 3. However, the US president has threatened to postpone that visit if China does not collaborate in restoring maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.

Washington maintains its interest in reducing the trade deficit, while Beijing seeks guarantees on the export of key technologies and the treatment of its companies on U.S. soil.
