China criticized the United States on Thursday for directly interfering and disturbing the export of lithographic machines to the Asian country by Dutch companies.

“The U.S. side has instrumented and weaponized export controls and has even bluntly intervened in normal trade between companies in other countries, to which China is firmly opposed,” said the spokeswoman for the Ministry of Commerce, Shu Jueting.

In this regard, he urged “the Dutch side to respect the spirit of contracts, support companies to carry out their business activities in accordance with regulations and maintain a free, open, fair and non-discriminatory international trade environment,” Shu emphasized at a press conference.

China will closely monitor the development and impact of the issue and will take necessary measures to firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies,” the spokeswoman added.
