As part of the national Safe Holy Week 2026 mechanism, the National Risk Management System (SNGR) activated an immediate deployment of rescue and pre-hospital care in the municipality of Monseñor Iturriza, after a maritime accident involving two vessels was registered.
The operation, coordinated through the Western Strategic Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis Regions (REDAN) and the Falcón Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis Operational Zones (ZOEDAN), was activated this Saturday afternoon off the coast of Chichiriviche.
According to official reports, the strong waves present in the area were the triggering factor that caused the collision and subsequent overturning of the units identified as “Luli Puerto Cabello” and “Doña Gladys”.
Immediate response and care for the injured
After receiving the alert, the rescue teams moved expeditiously to the pier to address the emergency and ensure the physical integrity of the crew members.
During the intervention, the paramedical staff carried out an exhaustive evaluation of the affected citizens. The official balance sheet of the authorities counts a total of eight injured people, who received the necessary care for their stabilization.
This deployment reaffirms the commitment of the State's security and preventive bodies to safeguard the lives of seasonal workers during the holiday of the Major Week.
