As part of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the physical disappearance of the Venezuelan poet, writer and comedian Aquiles Nazoa, the National Theater Company (CNT) paid a special tribute at the Alberto de Paz y Mateos Theater with the presentation of the play Mr. Hamlet, one of the author's most emblematic pieces.

The activity was attended by family members of Aquiles Nazoa and served as a starting point for a special program that celebrates the validity of his artistic and literary legacy, and promotes a metropolitan tour that will cover eight theaters in Caracas and Petare.

The tour includes spaces such as the theaters: Guayanés, Catia, La Vega, Simón Rodríguez, Alameda, San Martín, César Rengifo (Petare) and La Casa del Obrero, respectively.

The piece Mr. Hamlet, written by Aquiles Nazoa and directed by maestro Aníbal Grunn, transforms Shakespearean tragedy into a profoundly Venezuelan musical, full of humor, social criticism and Venezuelan popular music.

The public can enjoy the current season of Mr. Hamlet for a more open week at the Alberto de Paz y Mateos Theater with performances from Thursday to Sunday.

Regarding the tribute, the director general of the CNT, Carlos Arroyo, said that the figure of Achiles Nazoa is celebrated not only in Caracas, but throughout the national territory. “We are deeply grateful for the sharpness, skill and intelligence with which Achilles wrote Mr. Hamlet and other pieces,” he said.

For his part, director Aníbal Grunn, highlighted the validity of Nazoa's thinking and the strength of his word. “Although they thought they would kill me when I was torn to pieces, I still live in that dog, in that cloud, in those shoes”, evoking one of the author's most moving texts.

Meanwhile, Mario Nazoa expressed the emotion of remembering his father and thanked the CNT for the efforts of the CNT to keep his work alive. “Whenever there are these tributes to dad, they invite us to talk about him, to tell anecdotes, but we already run out of anecdotes from telling them so much,” he said.

This production brings together all the casts of the institution: stable cast, emerging cast and creative laboratory, in a musical show composed by Maestro Ignacio Barreto, musical arrangements by teacher Julia Carolina Ojeda and a joint production by the CNT together with the Ministry of Popular Power for Culture.
