The monument to the Virgin of Chiquinquirá, located in the Southern General Distributor of the Circunvalación 1 highway in Maracaibo, entered a phase of profound rehabilitation since Tuesday, July 14, that will completely transform its 2.5 hectares of extension.

The start of this work not only symbolizes the rebirth of faith and regional identity, but when integrated with the 12 hectares of the neighboring Metropolitan Health Park, it will add up to a total of 14.5 hectares recovered for healthy citizen recreation.

The rescue of this work is part of the Zuliano Art Rescue Plan and was led by the governor of the entity, Luis Caldera, together with the parish priest of the Basilica, priest Nedward Andrade, who stressed that “it is the beginning of a restoration that connects us directly to our spiritual roots, providing a renewed image for enjoyment and citizen encounter”.

In addition, they planned that this public space will be formally delivered on November 18, coinciding with the traditional celebration of Chinita Day.

The work includes a redesign that includes radial pedestrian paths to optimize access to the sacred image, the installation of rest areas with modern street furniture, ornamental LED lighting, native vegetation and the reactivation of its monumental fountain. In addition, a biosaludable park and an area dedicated to traditional commerce will be incorporated.
