Government of Miranda organizes comprehensive repair of the San José building in Chacao

In a joint effort that prioritizes the well-being of citizens, the governor of the state of Miranda, Elio Serrano, and the mayor of the Chacao municipality, Gustavo Duque, held a meeting with the residents of the San José building to coordinate the start of structural restoration work on this building, affected by the double earthquake of last June 24.

The immediate intervention plan assumed by the regional executive includes complete waterproofing to solve serious filtration problems, controlled demolitions in risky areas and the deep repair of masonry, according to a press release from the Government of Miranda.

In addition, the authorities committed themselves to acting as managers before the competent institutions to regularize the ownership situation and the legal status of the apartments, a historic demand of the 30 families who have resided there for more than 20 years and who yearn to return to their homes soon.

During the assembly, Governor Elio Serrano recognized the magnitude of the contingency in the jurisdiction. “We recognize what the country has experienced, we understand the circumstances that have happened in the midst of this situation. This was the municipality in Miranda state that was the most affected,” he said.

Serrano reported that technical commissions have supervised 1,200 buildings in the town. He explained that, although most are in the green line (safe), others have been rated in red. He clarified that this last label does not necessarily mean that they are permanently uninhabitable, but that they require urgent engineering work.
