The Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, during a press conference, assured that there is evidence that the authorities of Guyana and ExxonMobil planned a lobby before the Secretary General of the United Nations to bring the dispute over the disputed territory to the International Court of Justice.
Rodríguez presented the country with a document that evidences the lobby carried out by ExxonMobil, which proves the intentions of the transnational corporation to steal Venezuelan oil; “Exxonmovil said: <>. <no le voy a pagar a Venezuela y me retiro de Venezuela y no solamente no lo voy a pagar me voy a robar el petróleo>
In this regard, he reiterated that “the Venezuelan oil and gas that are there and that belong to Venezuelans”, while questioning the fact that the State of Guyana received money from the transnational corporation, “this is corruption”.
“The mobile ExxonMobil gives Guyana 18 million dollars in 2017 when the agreement was signed, to pay the lawyers who would go to the International Court of Justice (ICJ); they are also fortune-tellers because at that time the good offices process was under way, as stipulated in the Geneva Agreement between Guyana and Venezuela,” he emphasized.
In that regard, he indicated that “while Venezuela was there with its historical approach, with its historical reason, with its ownership of that historic territory, Guyana was laughing and mocking (...) Guyana acted in bad faith, because it was simply turning its back on the good offices process that was taking place at that time, as stipulated in the Geneva Agreement.”
He ruled that the contract between Guyana and ExxonMobil violates the Geneva Agreement and public international law, since this nation offered licenses to exploit resources in areas that are in dispute under the “lie” that it has sovereignty over it.
