The president in charge of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, this Wednesday praised the legacy of Dr. Humberto Fernández-Morán, commemorating 102 years since his birth.

“We honor Dr. Humberto Fernández-Morán, the light of Venezuelan science. His legacy teaches us that knowledge is sovereignty,” Rodríguez said through his Telegram channel.

He stressed that the Bolivarian Government strengthens “innovation and technology as axes for building an independent Homeland. Proud @s of our @s scientist @s!” , he exclaimed.

Fernández-Morán was a Venezuelan doctor and scientist, a world pioneer in biophysics and electron microscopy, known for inventing the diamond scalpel and developing cryoultramicrotomy, key techniques for neuroscience and structural biology.

Polyglot and erudite, his legacy includes the design of the first electronic cryomicroscope and contributions to the Apollo Project, leaving an indelible mark on global science.
