The Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) brought the number of deaths from Ebola to 245, including the 933 cases confirmed by the outbreak of the disease declared last May 15 in the east of the country.
“Since the beginning of this epidemic, we have recorded 245 deaths, representing a fatality rate of approximately 26%,” said the Congolese Minister of Health, Samuel Roger Kamba, at a press conference quoted by international web portals.
Roger Kamba specified that 80 people infected by the virus are “recovered and discharged”. He also indicated that, at present, there are “416 people hospitalized in our treatment centers (...). We have a capacity of more than 516 beds, ” he said.
In addition, he noted that its operational capacity is increasing, which will allow the attention of all cases in the community and, above all, the rapid discharge of suspected cases.
For its part, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned that, despite the increase in diagnostic and treatment capacities for the Ebola outbreak in eastern DRC, records of deaths are being kept in communities, an indication that the virus could be being transmitted outside the authorities' radar.
