A multidisciplinary team of forest firefighters, personnel from the National Park Institute (INPARQUES), park rangers, civil protection, volunteers and security agencies from the state of Aragua are still deployed for the third consecutive day carrying out Operation Rain with the objective of extinguishing the suffocating flames that attack Henri Pittier National Park.
Germán Gutiérrez, first commander of the INPARQUES Forest Fire Department accompanied by Rosinés Chávez, president of the institute, announced the scope of Operation Rain in the last 72 hours.
Authorities revealed that the forest fire in the Henri Pittier National Park has affected approximately 120 hectares in areas linked to the Girardot and Mario Briceño Iragorry municipalities. They also reported that more than 150 officials are deployed 24 hours a day carrying out direct combat maneuvers, through aerial water discharges over the affected areas of Henri Pittier.
He indicated that work is being done simultaneously in the El Manguito sector, which is the lower part of the Cuchillo row.
“Direct combat methods are being applied there with hand tools and indirect combat methods are also being applied because we also use the water resource that we use in that sector,” said the firefighter.
