Local media in Haiti reported the disappearance of five Salvadoran soldiers belonging to the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), after being victims of an ambush carried out by armed groups in the vicinity of Port-au-Prince, the Haitian capital.

According to information highlighted in Telesur, the attack occurred in the Santo area, within the commune of Croix-des-Bouquets, when an international force vehicle backed by the United Nations (UN) was ambushed by alleged members of criminal gangs operating in the region.

The security contingent authorities have not issued figures or official identities of the victims; however, press reports point to the criminal alliance Viv Ansanm, led by former police officer Jimmy Chérizier, alias "Barbecue “, as the main culprit.

The confrontation led to a military response operation with air support and field deployment, while security forces intensify their search efforts in the Western Department to find the whereabouts of the missing personnel and restore control in the area.
