The Minister of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, highlighted this Tuesday the recognition of the President in charge of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, to the legal and diplomatic team that defends Venezuela's historical rights over Guiana Essequiba.
Through his Telegram channel, the Foreign Minister highlighted the work of the legal and diplomatic team that has upheld the Venezuelan position before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), based in The Hague, the Netherlands, in the face of the illegal procedure promoted by the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.
He stressed that Venezuelan defense has been “based on the historical truth about the Essequibo and on the full validity of the Geneva Agreement of 1966, which is established as the only valid mechanism for resolving the territorial dispute in a dialogue, peaceful, just and sovereign manner.”
The foreign minister stressed that the recognition, made this Monday by the president in charge of the defending team, is a tribute to the collective effort carried out over the years to preserve Venezuela's historic rights to this territory.
The research team collected more than 3,000 pages of historical and legal documentation that support the Venezuelan position before the ICJ , providing elements that support the nullity of the Paris Arbitration Award of 1899 and the full validity of the Geneva Agreement of 1966 as a legal framework for the resolution of the territorial dispute.
