Funvisis modernizes accelerographic station in Maracaibo

The Venezuelan Foundation for Seismological Research (FUNVISIS) reported that the first accelerographic unit with real-time data transmission was installed at the Maracaibo station, located in the Regional Directorate of Civil Protection of the state of Zulia, which will improve the analysis capacity of the Venezuelan Seismological and Tsunami Warning Service.

The Funvisis technical-scientific team completed the installation and activation of the system, in addition to integrating the signal into the national processing center. “This accelerograph marks an important step for seismic monitoring in the Zulian region and for risk management in the country,” the institution said.

It should be noted that the modernization of stations is part of the process of strengthening the national seismic monitoring network and added that the incorporation of continuous transmission equipment allows obtaining more accurate records to evaluate soil behavior during earthquakes.
