This Thursday, June 13, the Foreign Minister of the Republic, Yván Gil, highlighted that the Unilateral Coercive Measures (MCU) against Venezuela have failed because here there is a people that opts for their sovereignty and right to self-determination.

“The Venezuelan people have demonstrated that their dignity is priceless, so the measures have failed,” he said, referring to the fact that President Nicolás Maduro has developed policies to protect the people, in the face of more than 930 unilateral coercive measures applied by the government of the United States, the European Union and other satellite nations.

During the 89th plenary session of the 78th session of the United Nations, he recalled that with these measures implemented at least since 2014, they have implemented a “campaign of maximum pressure against our country, a whole network of lies and legal and financial falsehoods has been approved to attack our people”.

He denounced that, as a result of these measures, the country has illegally confiscated properties of the Venezuelan people, such as the case of Citgo, but it has also “blocked accounts and prevented international bank transfers, they have paralyzed international contracting of services, they have pressured to discourage economic exchange (...) they have hindered the import of goods and services essential to guarantee the well-being of the population.”

He also explained that due to the application of sanctions and measures to strangle the Venezuelan economy, the country stopped producing 3,393 million barrels of oil equivalent to 232 billion dollars.

At the same time, he indicated that, to date, the damage to the country's economy can be estimated to be between about 242 billion dollars.

He specified that despite all these ill-called sanctions, Venezuela is moving forward today and has “97% food self-sufficiency.” In addition, he also highlighted that “with its own efforts, the economy has projected growth figures well above countries in the region.”
