The constitutional president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, in his name and that of the first lady Cilia Flores, sent this Easter Sunday a message of love, peace and hope to the people, from New York, where he is being held illegally after the military attack of last January 3.

“Beloved people of Venezuela, sisters and brothers of our homeland, peoples of the world: on this Easter Sunday, Cilia and I want to share a word of love, peace and hope”, the Head of State began his message, disseminated on his social networks.

He stressed that this Major Week “recalls a very profound truth: there is no resurrection without passion. First comes the cross, pain and surrender, but then comes new life.”

In this regard, he shared a series of verses from the Bible in which Jesus talks to Martha about the resurrection, a gospel in which the Lord “is teaching us that to rise is also to heal, to release, to forgive, to meet again and to walk together again”.

“This is why this Easter Sunday is to say with force that this is the victory of life and of truth. Death does not win: Christ wins. The lie doesn't win: the truth wins. Hate doesn't win: love wins. And that victory calls us to seek unity, dialogue, reconciliation and peace among all,” said President Maduro.

Finally, he asked that “the Risen Lord bless Venezuela and the peoples of the world, and fill us with faith, love and hope.”
