The Bolivarian Government of the state of Mérida began waterproofing and roof restoration work in the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. It is an iconic church of the Venezuelan Andes and is located in front of Plaza Bolívar in the city of Los Caballeros.
Through a press release from the regional government, the entity's Secretary of Infrastructure and Housing, Vladimir Alarcón, provided details of the work. In the first phase, the members of the crews will dedicate themselves to restoring, rehabilitating and refurbishing the roof of the enclosure, which is deteriorated as a result of the passing of the years and the heavy rainfall that usually occurs in the area.
“These actions are part of Plan 465 promoted by the regional government, in addition to the comprehensive rehabilitation of religious sites promoted by the Great Venezuela Bella Mission. These days of refraction include the ministry, the archdiocesan palace, the museum and the cathedral itself. Everything for the attention of religious centers in the state capital,” he said.
He also specified that “we are working on two thousand square meters of roof in different textures, since there are tiles on concrete and on slatted concrete; flat concrete roofs and polyurethane sheets”.
The Basilica Minor Church of the Immaculate Conception or Metropolitan Cathedral Basilica of Mérida is a religious building that was built starting in 1803 with various modifications until 1960. It has numerous stained glass windows and religious objects of great historical value.
