The comprehensive rehabilitation of educational institutions will be permanent and “keeping the pace” of 100 per month, said the Minister of Education, Héctor Rodríguez.
From the Dima Acosta de Álvarez Educational Unit, in Barquisimeto, Lara state, the head of the educational office recalled that during the vacation period that just ended, 300 schools and high schools from all over the country were fully intervened, a joint effort between all levels of government and the organized community.
Accompanied by the governor of Lara, Luis Reyes Reyes, the minister insisted that it is important for each community to “order” how they are going to recover, in order to be more efficient. “Because if we set out to recover them all in the same territory, we could leave children without class. It has to be ordered so that, while we are fixing one, the children see class in the nearest one. So, it is important that authorities responsible for these issues, together with the community, agree on the order in which we are going to recover educational institutions,” he explained.
In addition, according to a press release, Rodríguez also stated that schools are of intensive use and therefore need “permanent and systematic” maintenance, but they also “need the care of everyone”.
“Schools can be the cultural and social center of the community, but the community has to empower themselves and take care of them,” he stressed.
Governor Reyes said that in that entity there are 2,033 schools, including public, private and subsidized schools, and about 50,000 people, including teachers, administrators and workers, who started classes this Monday more than 412,000 children and adolescents.
He urged all of them to join forces for educational quality “beyond infrastructure”. “The computer is not enough, it's not enough just to have teachers, you have to have something very special, love, appreciation, esteem for the task we do as teachers, and then of course having our children well cared for, they feel like coming to class,” he emphasized.
