Political leader Jesús “ ” Torrealba pointed to the deep divisions that fracture the Venezuelan opposition, especially on issues such as amnesty and reconciliation.
The journalist stressed that while the detainees are looking for solutions, from the outside they are sabotaging the processes: “There are sectors of the opposition, mainly people who are not imprisoned because they are even out of the country, who say that amnesty is useless.”
Torrealba also harshly criticized the erratic foreign policy of certain opposition leaders, mentioning the rejection of the government of Spain, following the invitation of the president in charge Delcy Rodríguez to the Ibero-American Summit. “These are the things that happen when people do foreign policy based on their political or ideological activities, and not on the interests of the State,” he criticized María Corina Machado's position.
In that sense, he analyzed the international legitimation of the Venezuelan authorities as a complex reality that the opposition refuses to accept due to miscalculations. “We are in the presence of a very complex new situation and that is because people who made a calculation are, in effect, publicly and consistently legitimizing and supporting Delcy Rodríguez,” he said of the role of foreign powers.
The leader questioned the historic dependence of the opposition on external figures such as Donald Trump, pointing out that international politics is driven by convenience and not by personal loyalties. “The great powers don't have friends, they have interests,” Torrealba said, calling for recognition of the failure of strategies based on false promises of intervention.
