This Wednesday, the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, announced the suspension of gas supplies to Ukraine. This decision is presented as a strategic protection measure in the face of recent difficulties in transporting energy resources in the region.
The measure responds directly to the blockade imposed by the Kiev government, which prevents Hungary from receiving crude oil through the Druzhba pipeline. Orbán said that this interruption compromises his country's energy security, forcing the Executive to prioritize its domestic reserves.
The Hungarian president described Ukraine's action as a critical obstacle to national stability. In this regard, the suspension of gas flow to Ukrainian territory seeks to push for a solution that guarantees the restoration of oil transit to Hungarian refineries.
With this announcement, energy tensions between the two countries reach a new point of friction. The Hungarian government reiterated that its absolute priority is to safeguard the interests of its citizens and ensure the operation of its industrial infrastructure against external contingencies.
