With the arrival of April, Venezuela formally begins the rainy season of the year, according to weather forecasts reported by the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (Inameh).

As reported by the newspaper Úlmas Noticias, this forecast reveals that the rainfall cycle will begin progressively from the south of the national territory, driven by the natural movement of the atmospheric systems that govern the climate in our tropical region.

A report indicates that the first entities to register this activity will be the central and southern sectors of the state of Amazonas, the extreme south of the state of Bolivar and the southern part of Guiana Esequiba. In the same way, it is expected that the rains will begin to appear in the extreme southwest of the Apure and Barinas states; however, it is important to note that the intensity of the water will not be the same in all regions of the country during these first few days.

This seasonal change is mainly due to the influence of the Intertropical Convergence Zone. This phenomenon is, in essence, a band of low pressures that surrounds the Earth near the Equator and functions as the main driver of rain in the tropics. Starting in April, this strip begins to rise in latitude over our country, officially marking the beginning of the rainy season and determining how strong the rainfall will be depending on its position.

In addition to this natural cycle, the current climate is conditioned by the phenomenon known as El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENOS). Right now, we are in the final phase of “La Niña”.
