The president of the Committee for the Evaluation of Citizens' Power Applications of the National Assembly (AN), deputy Giuseppe Alessandrello, reported that the parliamentary body responsible for carrying out the selection process of the new authorities of the Public Ministry and the Defense of the People has been formally installed.
Alessandrello explained that the commission began its work on Friday with a day that he considered satisfactory.
“This afternoon, the committee's board of directors was elected, we drew up the operating regulations, the work schedule for the next 30 days and approved the national call for applications,” he said.
The parliamentarian announced that the process for receiving candidatures will be open from Monday, March 2 to Monday, March 9, during which any citizen can submit their candidacy for the positions of Attorney General of the Republic or Ombudsman and indicated that the required requirements and documents will be published on all information platforms of the National Assembly.
“I invite all Venezuelans interested in assuming these responsibilities to participate. The call will be available for them to submit their documents to the National Assembly,” he said.
For his part, the vice-president of the commission, Deputy Bernabé Gutiérrez, highlighted the institutional commitment that guides the process.
“I want to address all Venezuelan women and all Venezuelans so that those who aspire to the position of Attorney General or Ombudsman attend with absolute confidence. This committee is made up of women deputies with a commitment to democracy, to new generations and to the history of the country,” he said.
Gutiérrez stressed that the Legislative Branch works for the good of the country and for this new candidacy process that will integrate the Citizens' Power.
“The Parliament, chaired by Dr. Jorge Rodríguez, is committed to the democratic system and to our own conscience. We know that we must ensure transparency throughout this process,” he said.
The deputy stressed that the commission will evaluate candidates with criteria of responsibility and clarity. “We will select the men and women who are eligible for these positions. Once the entire process has been reviewed, the president of the committee, together with all of us, will present the conclusions to the Legislative Branch, which will appoint the Attorney General and the Ombudsman, in accordance with the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela,” he said.
