The president of the National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodríguez, handed over to the president in charge of the Republic, the recently approved Amnesty Law for Democratic Coexistence, stating that it is the result of the proposal to create a law that “would serve to repair, forgive but above all that would serve to allow us to see into the future”.

In this regard, he stated that “today a historic event occurred, an event that began when he took the initiative of a program of coexistence and peace that has covered the entire national territory in a broad process of consultation”. He recalled that at that time, the president in charge Rodríguez “also raised the need for the approval of an Amnesty Law to heal wounds resulting from acts of political violence from 1999 to date.”

The president of the AN stressed that a commission was formed that began the process of building this Amnesty Law, which had consultations at all levels. Rodríguez stressed that the law was approved unanimously, that is, by the 277 deputies and deputies who voted article by article of the law.

He stressed that “the deputies have set the example (...) There were tough discussions and diverse opinions, but we always sought and achieved the necessary consensus.”

The president of the AN congratulated the head of the commission, Jorge Arreaza, as well as Nora Bracho, who together with the rest of the members carried out the consultation of the law.
