The president of the National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodríguez, stated during the day of the Great Pilgrimage in the state of Bolivar that the country must face and overcome any expression of racism, and maintained that this national mobilization is a social force aimed at the reunion between Venezuelans.
“We have to eradicate any racist discourse and eradicate it out of love, out of the strength that this pilgrimage is going to have, the feeling just two days after it began, we come from the state of Amazonas and right now we are in one of the most beautiful states in Venezuela, which is the Bolivar state,” he said.
He indicated that this process calls on all sectors to reject hate speech and to strengthen historical and cultural ties.
The parliamentarian questioned an event held recently in Spain, organized by sectors of the extreme right, which he described as a space where racist expressions against Venezuelans were promoted.
From Bolívar, Rodríguez affirmed that Venezuela is a country formed by indigenous, African and European roots, and that this diversity constitutes a central element of national identity. He emphasized that the pilgrimage should serve to promote actions that contribute to eradicating racism in all its forms.
He also argued that this mobilization is a meeting of reconciliation and a call for national reunion. “The time has come to march together and together,” he said.
