(EL NACIONAL, April 26, 1972)

  • On April 25, 1972, the 23-year-old office worker, Dolores Teresa González Martínez, was the victim of a rifle shot fired by the police in Puerto Ordaz, Edo. Bolivar.
  • This wave of repression occurred when a police commission opened fire on the students of the Oscar Luis Perfetti High School in that city.
  • The young worker found her death at the hands of state police officers, when they mistook her for students, outside the above-mentioned high school.
  • That week, peaceful protests broke out in several cities; they were not insurrectionary, against repression and for respect for life. Against these, the Government of Rafael Caldera unleashed the use of police violence.
  • As a result, students were shot and injured in the cities of Cumaná, Mérida, Barquisimeto, Valencia, Cabimas, Maturín, Villa de Cura and Ciudad Bolívar. In addition, hundreds of young people were reported to have been arrested and suffocated by tear gas.
  • Among those arrested, there was a priest who supported the students, providing them with stones to counteract government lead.
