An Andean condor of the Vultur gryphus species was sighted in the Sierra La Culata National Park, located in the state of Mérida, where the animal had not been registered since 1976.

This was reported by the park rangers of the National Park Institute (INPARQUES), who explained that during a tour to monitor fauna and flora they saw the bird bordering the summit of Sugarloaf Mountain, located 4,680 meters above sea level.

“This is evidence that our condor has not forgotten its ancient migration route. This is a corridor that exists between the Merida and Colombian Andes,” said the park rangers quoted by the local press.
