Minister Padrino López: Sugarcane harvest 2025-2026 produced more than seven million tons

The Minister of People's Power for Productive Agriculture and Lands, Vladimir Padrino López, highlighted the increase in sugar cane milling, highlighting the results of the 2025-2026 harvest with 7.7 million metric tons, which highlights a growth of 4.5% compared to the previous cycle.

“This advance is not an isolated event, but rather a reflection of a trend that has consolidated sugar as one of the most dynamic sectors in the Venezuelan agro-industry, accumulating a growth of 16% in the last five years,” he said during an inspection of the Rio Turbio Sugar Plant, located in Lara state.

He also highlighted that one of the most significant achievements in this sector is the reduction to 20% of complementary imports to cover domestic consumption.

“This decline is a strong proof of the success in industrialization and of the sector's commitment to self-sufficiency,” he emphasized.

Padrino López specified that “we must remember that all this is due to a complete ecosystem: it is processing, industrialization; but also out there are cane growers with their own hands, tilling the land, practicing healthy ecology and caring for crops so that the yield, which is one of the challenges, is increasing every day”.

The minister said that “the sector is already preparing for the next challenges; the objective set for the upcoming harvest, which will begin in November, is ambitious: to continue raising performance and production levels to continue to guarantee domestic supply”.
