Ministry of Culture initiated recovery plan for the Palace of Academies

This Wednesday, July 22, the Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Raúl Cazal, inspected the Palace of the Academies to assess the damage caused by the earthquakes of last June 24 and define actions for the recovery of this historic monument.

The director of the National Academy of History, Inés Quintero, reported that, according to the first evaluations of the Cultural Heritage Institute, the structure of the building presents no risk of collapse, although significant damage was recorded in internal areas.

He also specified that the main tower was the most affected area after the detachment of the bell, which fell on the roof of the historical archive.

The Ministry of Culture indicated that, following the recommendations of the specialists, emergency work has already begun with Fundapatrimonio to remove debris, reinforce vulnerable areas and protect historical documentation while the building's restoration plan progresses.
