Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture held a training workshop for sector officials in Sucre

The Ministry of Popular Power of Fisheries and Aquaculture (MPPPA) held a training workshop in Sucre state for officials in the fishing sector on the recording of sightings and interactions between fishing gear and aquatic mammals.

The activity took place in the Hugo Chávez Hall of the Socialist Industrial Fisheries Company of Alba (PESCALBA), in Cumaná, and was attended by 32 MPPPA officials, who received training from workers from the Socialist Institute of Fisheries and Aquaculture (INSOPESCA) and the National Center for Fisheries and Aquaculture Research (CENIPA), Manuel Bolaños, Esnardo Flores and Katiana Cedeño.

During the day, aspects related to the identification of aquatic mammals, the importance of their conservation and the use of the National Registration System (SIRENA) were addressed, a tool that allows the systematic documentation of sightings and interactions with fishing gears, strengthening the monitoring of these species and the generation of strategic information for decision-making.

In addition, the participants received support material, completed the evaluation of the workshop and the satisfaction survey, evidencing a high level of receptivity, interest and active participation throughout the training.

These days are part of the national deployment carried out by MINPESCA to strengthen the technical capacities of its public servants and consolidate a responsible fishing culture, aimed at the protection of marine ecosystems and the efficient use of the SIRENA System as a tool for the monitoring and conservation of aquatic biodiversity.
