Ministry of Health and PAHO strengthen psychological care in temporary camps

The Ministry of Popular Power for Health (MPPS) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) began this Tuesday, August 11, a training workshop in psychological care aimed at personnel from the Integral Community Health Areas (ASIC) to address the emotional needs of citizens who are in temporary camps.
In a press release from the MPPS, the activity includes the preparation of facilitators who will assume key roles in 111 active camps in Caracas and in the states of La Guaira, Miranda and Aragua.
In the first phase, the program instructs representatives from 48 camps in the Capital District. The specialized PAHO team conducts the sessions in coordination with the MPPS.
The initiative provides participants with methodological tools to provide primary emotional support and quickly detect severe conditions that require the immediate intervention of psychologists or psychiatrists.
“Today we are going to hold a training workshop on psychological care for mental health points. These are people who are going to be in each of the 111 active camps that we have,” explained the ministry's director of Mental Health, Melina Herrera.
He emphasized the institutional commitment to optimize the public network of psychosocial assistance in the country.
This technical alliance strengthens the healthcare response and speeds up the timely transfer of patients to specialized care units. In this way, the State guarantees the comprehensive support of the population in situations of vulnerability.
