More than 1,450 miners participated in the public consultation on the reform of the Mining Law, led by the Minister of Ecological Mining Development and Basic Industries, Héctor Silva, together with the authorities of the sector and representatives of the National Assembly.
During the meeting, Silva stressed that the reform aims to adapt the legal framework “to the real conditions of the territory and to strengthen technical training. We will train our miners and bring laws closer to the realities that our peoples live,” he said.
The minister stressed that the proposal includes the creation of the National Mining Fund to support productive development and to move towards modern and sustainable processes and also indicated that the reform incorporates measures to protect small miners from the possible arrival of international companies.
Silva called for the consolidation of the organization of the sector and for the advancement of formalization processes. “Let's continue to organize ourselves to achieve formalization through the Single Mining Registries and that all alliances work within the law,” he said.
Among those in attendance were the Deputy Minister of Gold, Luis Pérez; the Deputy Minister of Other Strategic Non-Gold Minerals, Jesús Mieres; the first vice-president of the National Assembly, Pedro Infante; the president of the Permanent Commission on Energy and Petroleum, Orlando Camacho; and legislators from Bolívar and Guayana Esequiba.
