Orlando Fernández consolidates himself as the javelin champion in Latin America

The javelin champion of the Bolivarian Youth Games, Orlando Fernández, won a new gold medal for Venezuela in the 1st edition of the Ibero-American Under-20 Athletics Championship held in Lima, Peru.

The Venezuelan opened the series of six attempts with 58.26 and scored a foul in his second appearance. Then, he stuck the javelin in the pitch of the La Videna stadium at 65.39 meters, a distance that temporarily raised him to the top of the race; at that time, his closest rival was the Brazilian Pietro Pereira with 63.97.

After winning the final of the specialty with a record throw of 69.85 meters, the athlete established himself as the top leader in the division in the region and set the record for the championship that debuts this year in the competition calendar.

Fernández also confirmed his place in the joust of the American world next August, after leading the podium he shared with the Brazilian Pietro Silva in second place with 65.97 meters and the Argentinian Alexis Viso in the third place with 65.70 meters.
