The Minister of Defense, G/J Vladimir Padrino López, called on all the countries of the Great Homeland to work together so that peace, solidarity and cooperation prevail between sister nations, committed to the precepts of the Bolivarian Doctrine to forge a multicentric and multipolar world.
In a statement on the occasion of the bicentenary of the Battle of Junín, the senior military officer reflected on the lessons left behind from the emancipation processes, which demand the reaffirmation of commitment to the values that motivated independence leaders: freedom, independence, defense of sovereignty, justice and unity.
Below is the full statement:
Let us proudly celebrate the Bicentenary of the Battle of Junín, a crucial milestone of the Southern Liberation Campaign, masterfully commanded by the Father of the Fatherland Simón Bolívar and with a leading and decisive performance by General in Chief Antonio José de Sucre; which took place on August 6, 1824 in the Plateau of Bombón, Peru, representing a decisive episode for the definitive expulsion of the Spaniards who were still in American territory, while generating a series of political transformations that would resonate throughout the history in our region.
It is appropriate to remember, in order to instill national pride, the vehement words of the Potter of Republics during the prelude to the epic war: “Soldiers! You are going to complete the greatest work that heaven has entrusted to men: that of saving an entire world from slavery. (Soldiers! The enemies they are going to destroy are boasting of fourteen years of triumph. They, then, will be worthy to measure their weapons with those of you who have shone in a thousand fights (...)”. The victory obtained in this cavalry confrontation allowed control of the Andean pampas and significantly weakened the royalist army. From a political point of view, it not only consolidated Peru's freedom, but it also laid the foundations for the consolidation of the integrationist project of Gran Colombia, in a continent that demanded breaking the chains of opprobrium and colonialism. Likewise, it sponsored resistance, the struggle of peoples and the union of the nations of the South in the conquest of their independence, thus providing the foundations of the initiatives of Latin American and Caribbean integration, desired by the Liberator and resumed as a standard of the Bolivarian Revolution by Supreme Commander Hugo Chávez, in the 21st century.
Today, as we remember this heroic feat, it is imperative to reflect on the lessons it leaves us as a continuous process of emancipation, which requires the reaffirmation of commitment to the values that motivated independence leaders: freedom, independence, defense of sovereignty, justice and unity. May the courage of the Hussars of Junín inspire us to face current challenges; always with the same determination that they showed for the construction of the Great Homeland! Let us work together for a future in which peace, solidarity and cooperation prevail between sister countries, committed to the precepts of the Bolivarian Doctrine to forge a multicentric and multipolar world, in order to conquer the Supreme Social Happiness of our peoples.
JUNIN! GLORIOUS SUN IN THE MAJESTIC SKY OF AMERICA THAT MARKED THE DAWN OF OUR PEOPLES, IN THE EXALTED DREAM OF FREEDOM AND INDEPENDENCE..!
Chávez lives!... The Fatherland continues! Independence and Socialist Homeland!... We will live and we will overcome!
The Venezuelan Sun rises in the Essequibo!... Born in the Essequibo!
Independence or nothing, always loyal!... Never traitors!
