Peru declares emergency on the border in the face of increased violence in Ecuador

This Tuesday, the Peruvian Government reported that it declared an emergency on its northern border with Ecuador due to security measures due to violent actions in the area.

 

In this regard, in statements to the Peruvian press, the president of the Council of Ministers, Alberto Otárola, authorized an extra contingency deployment of police officers who, together with the Armed Forces, will support local security to control people entering the area.


“We want to call for calm, for tranquility, to our compatriots, both those who are in Ecuador and those who are especially on our border,” said Otárola.

 

For their part, according to the RT press release, the ministers of Defense, Jorge Chávez; and of the Interior, Víctor Torres, will move to the main border point with Ecuador, the city of Tumbes, to “ensure the security” of the South American nation.
