Plan Venezuela Renace intervenes more than 1,800 square meters of the National Pantheon after earthquakes

The Ministry of Public Works, through the Venezuela Renace Plan, intervenes, in its initial phase, an area of more than 1,800 square meters with masonry work on the central nave and side warehouses of the National Pantheon, which were affected after the powerful earthquakes of last June 24.

In addition to this, crews and specialized technical personnel carry out other works, with which 35% progress is reported in the restoration and architectural conservation of the National Pantheon, according to a press release from the ministry replicated by the Venezuelan News Agency (AVN).

Among the tasks being carried out at the National Monument, located in Caracas, are the leveling of infrastructure floors, the comprehensive rehabilitation of external facades that cover more than 12 thousand square meters; waterproofing of 1,300 square meters of roof, for which about 32 thousand tiles were meticulously removed and treated for conservation and reinstallation.

According to the report, the renovation and rehabilitation of the National Pantheon is carried out in strict accordance with the recommendations and regulations of the Institute of Cultural Heritage (IPC), ensuring the recovery of architectural elements.

Built in 1744 as the Church of the Holy Trinity and after being seriously affected by the earthquake of 1812, the then President of the Republic, Antonio Guzmán Blanco, ordered its transformation and then decreed it as a National Pantheon in 1814. Since that date, it has protected the legacy and history of Venezuela.
