Pope Leo XIV begins his tour of Spain tomorrow with an itinerary focused on institutional dialogue and humanitarian care. The visit, which will run until June 12, marks the first apostolic trip of a pontiff to the country in the last fifteen years and includes strategic stops in Madrid, Barcelona and the Canary Islands to meet high-level commitments.
On Monday, June 8, the Pontiff will mark an unprecedented milestone when he became the first pope to give an official speech to the Congress of Deputies in Madrid. This solemn ceremony, which will be held in a joint session with the Senate, will be preceded by a protocol meeting with the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, at the Apostolic Nunciature to address issues of bilateral and social relevance.
The agenda in Barcelona will focus on the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia, where the Pope will celebrate a special ceremony commemorating the centenary of the death of the architect Antoni Gaudí.
The stay in the Canary Islands will focus exclusively on the humanitarian field, through scheduled tours to the port of Arguineguín and the Las Raíces reception center to make visible the reality of migration on the southern border.
The security and logistics devices are already operational in the three main venues to ensure the development of the planned mass events. This official visit represents a major diplomatic effort that seeks to strengthen ties between the Holy See and Spanish institutions, while maintaining a message of closeness with the most vulnerable sectors of the population.
