The president in charge of the Bolivarian Republic of
Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, lamented the physical departure of singer-songwriter
and revolutionary activist Gloria Martín this Tuesday.
Through her social networks, the president in charge
described Martín as a “courageous woman, a great singer-songwriter committed to
Venezuela, the Venezuelan people and a strong voice for just causes.”
He stressed that “his singing sowed awareness, dignity and love for
our country. Today we said goodbye to her with sadness, but also with immense gratitude.
His example and his music are forever planted in the
national memory”.
Martín was born on March 21, 1945 in Spain. She migrated to
Venezuela with her parents as a child. She studied at the Central University of
Venezuela (UCV), from where she graduated with a degree in Arts, with a mention in
Cultural Promotion, in addition to teaching. During the 1970s and 1980s,
she was one of the voices that rose in the New Latin American Song.
