President in Charge: Our central and essential objective is to save lives in a national union

The President in charge of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, held the first meeting of the General Staff to address the emergency caused by two consecutive earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 that affected a large part of the national territory, where she determined that the priority of the National Government is the rescue of people.

“We have been reviewing the first tasks with a central and essential objective; to save lives, our work of the authorities of the National Emergency System, of the Civil Protection (PC) system is we are going to the rescue of those people who were boarded up by buildings or houses that collapsed,” said the President in charge.

The Executive activated a contingency General Staff and suspended classes for the rest of the week, as well as non-essential work activities, to prioritize the rescue and care of the injured, who at the time of the report numbered 35 deaths and more than 700 injured.
