Faced with the violent events of the last few hours, the government of Ecuador issued this Tuesday, 09, a decree declaring the existence of an internal armed conflict in the country, according to the Prensa Latina website.
It specifies that Executive Decree number 111, signed by President Daniel Noboa, classifies several transnational organized crime groups as terrorists and provides for the direct intervention of the Armed Forces.
The document identifies criminal gangs and belligerent non-state actors as terrorists, such as the organizations Águilas, ÁguilasKiller, Ak47, Dark Knights, ChoneKiller, Choneros, Corvicheros, Cuartel de las Feas, Los Tiburones, R7 and Tiguerones, among others.
When publishing the decree on his account on the social network X, the president states that he ordered the Armed Forces to carry out military operations to neutralize these groups.
In the last few hours, in Ecuador there have been explosions, car bombs, incinerated vehicles, kidnapped police, prisoner escapes, and other violent acts described as terrorists.
On Tuesday afternoon, hooded men broke into the studios in Guayaquil of the TC Television channel and kidnapped the staff until the police arrived.
A heavy firefight and explosive threats against workers were broadcast live on an open signal.
Social networks and local media report that buildings and businesses in downtown Guayaquil closed their doors and evacuated their employees.
Meanwhile, in the capital, soldiers guard strategic sites such as the Quito Metro, and carry out operations in search of weapons and explosives.
