On July 23, 1961, the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) was founded in Nicaragua, one of the leading revolutionary organizations in Latin America.

Nicaraguans under the dictatorship of Anastasio Somoza Debayle, a group of men inspired by the Cuban Revolution of 1959, create the FSLN founded as a political-military organization to fight against the regime.

It should be noted that the name of this political-military organization is in honor of the peasant leader Augusto César Sandino, who fought against the U.S. invasion of Nicaragua during the period 1926-1933.

The Somoza dictatorship lasted almost half a century, but with the arrival of the Sandinista Revolution it was defeated on July 19, 1979.

Although the front lost the elections in 1990, 17 years later it came to power at the hands of the revolutionary Daniel Ortega.

After 64 years of struggle, of rebellion, the FSLN continues to work for its people.
