With an online training session, Venezuelan teachers began the 2025-2026 school year on Monday, said the Deputy Minister of Education, Alejandro López.
López explained that this Monday's day corresponded to the Identity area, which covers Social Sciences, History, Geography and Citizenship, and that during the next few days of the week the same will be done with Natural Sciences (Tuesday), Language (Wednesday) and Mathematics (Thursday). The cycle ends on Friday with a dissertation on the challenges and challenges of the new school year.
The Deputy Minister recalled, according to a press release from the Ministry of Education, that these contents are currently undergoing a review and consultation process in which teachers from all over the country participate openly and that it does not correspond to the design of a new curriculum, but rather a review to evaluate what content is effective and how it can be improved.
“We have proposed, first, the organization of 14 components that are developed from the contents of the Bicentennial collection. 14 thematic guides. Each of them is presented in the document we are studying and debating,” he said.
López reiterated that talking about Venezuelan identity necessarily involves the concepts of equality and social justice, the practice of independence from anti-imperialism and the union of the American peoples. “This is so that we can have some elements to begin to approach Bolívar in its immensity,” he remarked.
In turn, he said that Identity is a field of study that should “contribute to encouraging analysis and reflection on the causes and consequences of poverty, discrimination, inequality and social exclusion”, that is, disciplines “that are characterized by examining the organization of society”.
