Teachers and teachers from all over the country will be trained to become promoters of reading and writing as part of a national plan to encourage children and young people to approach books, and to keep them away from screens.

The information was provided by the Deputy Minister of Initial, Primary and Special Education, Magaly Muñoz, who together with the Deputy Minister of Promotion for the Cultural Economy and president of the National Book Center (CENAL), Raúl Cazal, met this Tuesday to refine strategies around this initiative.

According to a CENAL press release, Muñoz indicated that in addition to seeking that students enjoy reading, the idea is that they “understand its value as a tool to know, to investigate, to know”.

Cazal, for his part, said that the purpose is to “awaken the consciousness of children and young people with imagination, fantasy, myths and our history”. He explained that the book collection for this plan will include national, Latin American and universal literature.

Among the selection of books and authors, it is proposed to address a variety of topics, including those anti-patriarchal, ecological values that writers such as Teresa de la Parra, Gustavo Díaz Solís, Aquiles Nazoa, and others have exposed in our national literature.

During the closing of the First Pedagogical Congress of Bolivarian Teachers, on August 17, President Nicolás Maduro announced the start of a national reading and writing plan, “to defeat the cognitive war”.
