Last Thursday, March 12, the
first week of the 7th Meeting of Knowledge, Sounds and Flavors: Caribe Soy ended,
dedicated to exploring the rhythms and knowledge of the Dominican Republic in activities
organized by the Institute for Performing and Musical Arts (IAEM).
According to information from the Ministry
for Culture, the program included writing and dance workshops that
merge tradition and cultural practice.
As part of this meeting, the director of the IAEM, Juan Pérez, led the workshop “The Tenth as a Flag of Resistance”, where he explained the structure of the tenth and reviewed the writing exercises carried out by the participants, on the eve of the next May Cross Wakes. The activity served as a space for exchange in a poetic form deeply rooted in cultural traditions.
During the afternoon, the dance
workshop “The flavor of Dominican merengue” was held, given by Marvin Paz,
director of the Maenramar dance academy, together with the dancers Fabiola Leal and Luis Plasencia.
Paz explained elements of
traditional merengue and styles such as “a lo marco” merengue and “apambichao merengue”,
inviting the public to also participate in the second chapter of the meeting, dedicated to Venezuela.
This five-chapter cycle is part
of the program that highlights the commitment of the Great Mission Viva Venezuela Mi
Patria Querida to training and the rescue of cultural value, integrating weekly
activities until mid-April.
